Dear Future Husband (wherever you may be),
Do you play the banjo? I secretly hope so. If not, that's okay. Perhaps it's something we could learn together. Still, if that's not something you're keen on, just know that a fair portion of the music I listen to resonates with the sound of the fine little instrument.
Yours affectionately,
Emily
Ooh, listen to that banjo! All silliness aside, the above video is one of my favorites from Great Lake Swimmers (who happen to be my favorite band) recent album/video project titled The Legion Sessions. Compiled of live versions of nearly all the songs off their 2009 release Lost Channels, The Legion Sessions has been my go-to disc of choice this summer. Perhaps I love it so because it's the closest I've come to hearing Great Lake Swimmers perform live. The band is based out of Ontario and tour North America frequently, so you'd think I would have made the 7 hour drive to Toronto or the 4 hour drive to Montreal already, right? Wrong. Guess who hasn't renewed her passport or upgraded her drivers license for easy access across the border? The same silly girl who hasn't even made the easy trips to NYC, Boston, or Philadelphia to see them either. Haha, one of these days...

Pen to paper

Dear mid-November,
You've come upon us so quickly! Tell me, how did that happen? Did you push and shove through the calendar, fighting your way to the forefront of our days? Or were you exercising furtiveness by creeping in while no one was looking? Either way, I wrote a poem for you. It's a brief reflection of how I've spent a portion of my day.
a quiet afternoon of
indoor coffee
sip sip sips
mug to lips.
warmed throat.
outdoor coat adorned
fade to gray
whittled branches spatter the skyline.
Love,
Emily

Changing colors
Dear Afternoon Cup of Coffee,
Thank you for being smooth, flavorful and most importantly, caffeine-enriched. Without you, I would probably still be on the sofa fighting off sleep with a book in my hands. Here you see that I was able to pick myself up and enjoy some time outside. It was mostly overcast, but the air was warm with a pleasant breeze. Your power to stimulate has awakened my senses today and each breath I draw tastes clean and sweet.
Love,
Emily

A letter. No postage necessary.

Dear Spring,
Welcome back! I was still asleep when you officially arrived at 7:44 AM, but let's not let that come between us. Your sun-filled afternoon has stirred rays of delightful warmth into my favorite cup of tea, sweetening each sip in ways sugar never could. The brook runs steadily, performing its melodic gurgles. As you see, I'm not putting away my winter boots just yet. I thought we might enjoy several outings in their company as well.
All my love,
Emily

First Things First
Dear Blog,
Hello. How new and fresh you are! Please do not feel slighted that I still have two "active" blogs at Xanga.com. I hardly ever use them but cannot bring myself to shut them down... yet.
You can coexist.
This is all the time I have for now,
E.
